The season balance sheets of VfB Stuttgart show the position, goal difference and number of points scored in the league for each season of the first VfB Stuttgart football team. In addition, the performance in national and international competitions as well as the best goalscorer of the respective season are named.

After the merger of its two predecessor clubs in 1912, VfB Stuttgart qualified for the first-class Südkreisliga and played before and after the game interruptions caused by the two world wars, with the exception of the seasons 1923/24, 1975/76, 1976/77, 2016/17 and 2019 / 20 always in the highest German soccer league. So far, VfB has won five German championships and three DFB Cup wins . In the European Cup Winners' Cup and in the UEFA Cup , the Stuttgart-based company has so far taken one finals. In the Champions League , qualifying twice for the round of 16 was the greatest success so far.

N The number of defeats VfB has lost in the league this season.
Gates Name the goal difference of VfB in the league. The number in front of the colon indicates the number of goals scored, the number after the colon the number of goals conceded.
Points States the number of points scored by VfB in the league. In the seasons before the introduction of the three-point rule in 1995, the number in front of the colon indicates the number of points earned, the number after the colon indicates the number of points lost. From the 1995/96 season onwards, a number indicates the number of points scored.
South German Cup Name the performance of VfB in the South German Cup . If VfB has won the title, the column will be marked with winner . Otherwise the round in which VfB was eliminated is named.
Cup Name the performance of VfB in the DFB-Pokal ( Tschammer-Pokal until 1943 ). If VfB has won the title, the column will be marked with winner . Otherwise the round in which VfB was eliminated is named.
International Names the performance of VfB in international competitions. The abbreviation in front of the colon names the competition. After the colon, if VfB has won the title, the column with winner is marked. Otherwise the round in which VfB was eliminated is named.
Top scorer In front of the brackets, state the names of the players who scored the most goals in the league in the relevant season and, within the brackets, the number of goals scored by the respective player this season.
spectator States the average number of spectators per game at home games in the respective season.

3 VfB was initially able toprevailagainst Leeds United . Because a fourth foreigner came on as a substitute for VfB in the second leg, there was a playoff that was lost.
4 VfB was able to qualify for the UEFA Cup in the UI Cup. This season, however, the UI Cup winners were the team that made the furthest in the UEFA Cup, in this case Sporting Braga .
5 Due to renovation work in the stadium, only 42,101 seats were available in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.
