Steuben County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Angola .

The county is located in the extreme northeast of Indiana, borders Ohio to the east and Michigan to the north and has an area of ​​835 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: DeKalb County , Noble County, and LaGrange Counties .

history

Steuben County was formed on February 7, 1835 from parts of LaGrange County. It was named after Friedrich Wilhelm August Steuben , a German-American general who was born in Magdeburg and who reorganized George Washington's army during the American War of Independence .

According to the 2000 census , Steuben County had 33,214 people in 12,738 households and 8,916 families. The population density was 42 inhabitants per square kilometer.
