history
Žerotín was first mentioned in 1131 when the Olomouc bishop Heinrich Zdik assigned parts of the village from the Olomouc Church of St. Peter to the newly built Wenceslas Church. At the end of the 12th century, the Bludov family acquired the place and the branch was called von Žerotín . Around 1348 a fortress was built, which was devastated in the Hussite Wars.
In 1480 the Augustinian monastery in Sternberg acquired the property and in 1599 the fortress was renewed. In 1751 the Order converted the fortress into a baroque palace with a large palace park, which served as a summer residence until the secularization in 1784. In 1798 the Jägersfeld colony was established on the southern part of the cadastre. During the Napoleonic Wars, the castle was used by the Ober Langendorf military hospital. In 1827 Philipp Ludwig acquired Saint-Genois d'Aneaucourt (1790–1857) Žerotín. He had the interior of the castle renewed in the English style and added Žerotín to the rule of the Hradisko Monastery . After the patrimonial rule was replaced in 1848, Žerotín and Jägersfeld became an independent municipality. From 1850 Žerotín belonged to the Šternberk District. In 1867 Jägersfeld / Liboš broke up and formed its own community.
The castle and the associated estate were bought by the Liechtenstein family in 1879 . At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle park was devastated by a windpipe. There was no restoration; Parts of the area were cleared and used for agricultural purposes. Four large statues of Greek deities were moved to the Schlosspark Feldberg .
In 1945 the Liechtensteiners were expropriated. The castle became the seat of an agricultural cooperative . The building was neglected and the remaining part of the castle park was destroyed. In the course of the territorial reform of 1960 Žerotín was merged with Strukov on January 1, 1961 to form the municipality of Žerotín-Strukov. At the same time, the Okres Šternberk was dissolved and the new municipality was assigned to the Okres Olomouc. On November 24, 1990 the municipality Žerotín-Strukov dissolved and Žerotín became independent again. After the Velvet Revolution, the castle was returned in the 1990s and has been vacant and inaccessible since then.
The inhabitants of the place live from agriculture. Žerotín is largely surrounded by fields and meadows.
