Asco is a municipality on Corsica in France . The 119 villagers (as of January 1, 2017) call themselves Ascais or Aschesi .

geography

Asco borders in the north on Olmi-Cappella , in the north-east on Vallica , in the east on Moltifao , in the south-east on Castiglione , in the south on Albertacce , Lozzi and Corscia , in the south-west on Manso and in the north-west on Calenzana .

The source brook of the river of the same name rises in the southwest of the municipality marker and on the northwest flank of Monte Cinto . This passes the hamlet of Haut-Asco, a former ski station. From the main settlement the body of water is called “Asco” and then passes the Gorges de-l'Asco, a rugged granite gorge . The department road D147 also runs in the river valley .

meteorite

In 1805 a stone meteorite weighing 41 or 42 grams fell near Asco and was classified as type H6. The circumstances of the find are unclear, especially since the mountainous landscape makes it difficult to find.
