Tox ( Corsican Tocchisu ) is a French commune with 96 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Corse department on the island of Corsica .

Tox is located at an average altitude of 527 meters above sea ​​level, 3 kilometers southeast of the Corsica Regional Nature Park in the Castagniccia , 50 kilometers southwest of Bastia , the seat of the prefecture of the department and 5.6 kilometers southeast of the canton capital Moïta . Tox has a well-preserved medieval town center. The place name is derived from tocsin , which can mean both 'bell' and 'bell ringing'. The Madonna-de-Grazie chapel is a pilgrimage site. It stands at a height of 538 meters on a mountain peak northeast of the town center.

The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is dedicated to John the Baptist . It was built in the 18th century in place of the original Romanesque church. Parts of the older church were reused, which is why it is partly Romanesque and partly Baroque . It is entered in the additional directory of the Monument historique ('historical monuments'). In the church there is an altarpiece depicting the Virgin with the Child , Saint John the Baptist and the Archangel Michael . Economy and Infrastructure

The copper deposits of Mine de Linguizetta were classified as very rich in 1778, but not until 1855 Auguste Marie Le Coat de Kerveguen been granted a mining concession. The work was stopped again in 1857, then resumed in 1872 by the British company Cardo Mining . By 1877, 15 to 25 people worked in the mine under the direction of an English engineer. In 1926, Le Coat de Kerveguen's granddaughter gave up the concession.
