Aghione ( Corsican : Aghjone ) is a municipality with 241 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Corse department on the French island of Corsica .
geography
Aghione is located in the valley of the Tagnone River , at an altitude of 60 meters above sea level , in the east of Corsica, 59 kilometers northeast of Ajaccio , the capital of the Corsica region, and 9.3 kilometers west of Aléria . Other neighboring communities are Casevecchie and Lugo-di-Nazza . The municipality has an area of 33.88 square kilometers.

The municipality of Aghione was formed in 1864 from the districts of the municipalities Vivario and Vezzani .

economy
In 1975 the 31 winemakers joined forces to form a cooperative . The cooperative's vineyards are 850 hectares in size, their soil is rich in clay minerals and limestone , but also contains silt , red sand and gravel . The cooperative is whites of varieties Vermentinu , Chardonnay , Muscat of Alexandria , Muscat and Chenin Blanc forth, and red wines of the grape varieties Niellucciu , Sciaccarelu , Pinot Noir , Merlot , Syrah , Cinsault and Grenache . The climate is sunny and characterized by the proximity of the sea and the barrier of the mountains.
There is also a company in Aghione that produces essential oils of rosemary , crested lavender , myrtle , Italian strawflower , carrots , fennel , mastic , sticky elephant and eucalyptus from wild plants and organically grown plants . The oils are mainly sold in local markets.
Corsican goat cheese , Brocciu and Venachese (Venaco), is made in a local dairy . The goat farm and the cheese dairy can be visited. The cheeses are sold from January to August in the dairy and at the weekly market in Bastia.
Then there is a fruit growers ' cooperative , which is based in Ghisonaccia . The cooperative was established in 1987 and comprises over 50 companies. The cooperative produces prunes .
In the municipality there are controlled designations of origin (AOC) for brocciu, honey (Miel de Corse - Mele di Corsica) , olive oil (Huile d'olive de Corse - Oliu di Corsica) and wine (Vin de Corse or Corse blanc, rosé or rouge) as well as Protected Geographical Indications (IGP) for clementines (Clémentine de Corse) and wine (Ile de Beauté blanc, rosé or rouge and Méditerranée blanc, rosé and rouge) .
