Bures is a French commune with 62 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Lunéville and the municipality association Pays du Sânon .

geography

The municipality of Bures is located 230 meters above sea level, 16 kilometers northeast of Lunéville , about halfway between Nancy and Sarrebourg .

The community area covers a section north of the Sânon valley. Apart from the trees on the Étang de Parroy and smaller streams, the 5.74 km² municipal area is woodless and characterized by extensive arable land.

At the Etang de Parroy , a nearly 30-hectare Stauweiher, which was created by an embankment in the construction of the Rhine-Marne Canal, Bures has a small stake. The pond is fed by three streams and releases excess water into the Rhine-Marne Canal . In summers with less precipitation, large areas of the lake fall dry. The pond is particularly interesting for ornithologists, who set up a station in Bures on the west bank in 1997. Numerous breeding birds have been observed on the reed-covered banks, including little bitterns , marsh harriers and purple herons .

The farms of La Fourasse and Saint-Pancrace to the west of the town belong to Bures .

Neighboring communities of Bures are Réchicourt-la-Petite in the north, Parroy in the southeast, Laneuveville-aux-Bois in the south, Hénaménil in the south, Bathelémont in the west and Arracourt in the northwest.

history

The sword and key in the coat of arms indicate that the village was part of Senones Abbey .

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture continues to play an important role in Bures. Eight farms are located in the municipality (grain cultivation, dairy farming, goat and sheep breeding). In addition, tourism is developing.

Bures is located away from the nationally important traffic arteries. The municipality can be reached via an exit on the trunk road from Dombasle-sur-Meurthe to Sarrebourg . Other roads connect the village with the communes of Réchicourt-la-Petite and Bathelémont .
