The CEV-Pokal (official name: CEV Cup ) is the second highest European cup competition for club teams in volleyball . Up to and including the 2006/07 season, the competition was held under the name Top Teams Cup and the name CEV-Pokal applied to the current Challenge Cup . The organizing European association CEV then restructured the European Cup. The Top Teams Cup had the European Cup Winners' Cup, which has been held since 1972/73, in the 2000/01 seasonreplaced. In the early 1970s, the major volleyball nations did not take part in the competition, so teams from other countries could present themselves.
mode
The teams that are placed behind the Champions League participants in their national league are eligible to participate . The exact number of starting places in the individual competitions results from a ranking list of the CEV.
In the first round, 32 teams compete against each other in a knockout system with a return leg. If there are different winners in the two games, an additional set of up to 15 points ("golden set") is played immediately after the second leg, which decides on the move into the next round. The exact results of the two encounters are meaningless. The losers enter the third round of the Challenge Cup. The 16 winners of the first round continue to play in the last sixteen and quarter finals. In the men's competition there is a "Challenge Round" after the quarter-finals. There the winners of the quarter-finals will meet four teams that were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League. The winners of the “Challenge Round” (men) or the quarter-finals (women) qualify for the Final Four . The tournament of the best four teams will be held at a central location within one weekend. The semi-finals will take place on one day, the third-place match and the final on the other.
