The district Dobritz is a district of the Saxon state capital Dresden and borders (starting clockwise in the north) on the districts Tolkewitz , Laubegast , Leuben , Niedersedlitz , Reick and Seidnitz . It is partly in the statistical districts of Leuben with Dobritz-Süd , which belongs to the Leuben district, and Seidnitz / Dobritz , which is part of the Blasewitz district .

First mention

Dobritz was first mentioned in 1379 as "Doberwicz". Doberwicz means "people of a Dobr"; Dobr was probably the leader of the people. Doberwicz and Dobritz are derived from the Sorbian root word dobr - meaning "good".

Basics

Dobritz used to consist of the villages of Großdobritz, Kleindobritz and Lips. Over time, however, people emigrated from Lips until it was empty and turned into a desert in Dresden . The municipal council decided in 1839 that Groß- and Kleindobritz should become one place, but it wasn't until 1900 that both places were referred to as Dobritz, for example in maps. Before that, two different villages were still given.

In 1890 Großdobritz had about 200 inhabitants , Kleindobritz 76. The people lived mostly from agriculture , but also from spinning , straw-weaving , weaving and bleaching .

From 1495 Dobritz belonged to the parish Leuben . Until 1883, the students from Dobritz had to go to school in Leuben . In 1881 Dobritz began to build his own school.

Change of Dobritz

At the end of the 19th century , Dobritz lost its peasant image. In 1884 a curtain factory was established on the Dresden-Bodenbach railway line , employing 400 workers . The curtain factory is still there today. In 1895, many nurseries moved from Striesen to Dobritz. The place became workers' residence for companies from Niedersedlitz . As a result, a new school had to be built in 1908. In 1912 the headquarters of the Dresden curtain and lace manufacture came to Dobritz. That is why 620 new apartments were built on Georg-Marwitz-Strasse and Breitscheidstrasse. Georg Marwitz was the owner of the Dresden curtain manufacture. In 1923 the new school built in 1908 was already too small again due to the strong population growth and had to be enlarged.

Incorporation

On April 1, 1921 Dobritz was incorporated into Dresden along with Leuben and other suburbs . As a condition for incorporation, the municipality of Dobritz stipulated that the tram network to Dobritz should be expanded by 1923 at the latest . However, due to financial problems, the line from the Reick depot to the branch to Reick was not completed until September 1, 1925. A month later, the route from Seidnitz to Leuben via junction to Reick was completed. Now Dobritz was connected to the Dresden tram network from two sides.

Post War and Socialism

After the Second World War , the curtain factory was rebuilt and many new industrial buildings were built. The largest was built from 1957 to 1964 on an undeveloped piece of land on Breitscheidstrasse. The company manufactured chocolate and packaging machines and was therefore called " Schokopack " like the writing on the skyscraper , its real name was "VEB Schokoladen- und Verpackungsmaschinen". Owing to the increased rush one was stopping point for trains into operation on 1 July 1971st But actually the "Haltpunkt Dresden-Dobritz" is just like the Schokopack in the district of Reick.

From 1966 onwards, more apartments were built, for example the residential area Franz-Mehring-Straße. From 1970 to 1975 the Leuben development area was built on the former fields of Dobritz and Leuben.

Since the turn of the millennium

At the turn of the millennium , the street Moränenende was completely redesigned in the course of the "Pilot Project Line 2" of the Dresden Transport Authority and the City of Dresden. The footpath between Breitscheidstrasse and Pirnaer Landstrasse (“branch to Reick”) was expanded to become a street and the tramway on it was expanded to double-track. In the course of this work, the northern exit part of the Prohlis Landgraben was also exposed. At the other end of the moraine end, the railway bridge and the Dobritz stop were completely redesigned. The railway line was expanded to four tracks again, and the stop was relocated to the bridge. The train stop has been converted into a contemporary transfer point between the S-Bahn , bus and tram with an elevator and escalators .

The administration building of the VEB Schokopack , which had been vacant for years, was to be converted into a senior citizen center. However, since it is an industrial park, the city did not agree to the investor's plan. A demolition of the high-rise built in 1957 is not possible for monument protection reasons. In March 2017, Itelligence AG bought the site and announced that by autumn 2018, IT jobs for an initial 350 employees will be created on 9,000 square meters of office space. A large canteen will be set up on the ground floor. The employees enter the park, which is located between two buildings, via a terrace. The IT company now has its Dresden branch at this location.
