Fontaneweg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fontanewege (often also Fontanewanderwege ) are hiking and cycling routes that follow in the footsteps of Theodor Fontane's work Walks through the Mark Brandenburg through the former Mark Brandenburg . In his five-volume work, which appeared between 1862 and 1889, Fontane described castles, monasteries, places and landscapes of the march, their inhabitants and their history on the basis of his own wanderings .

The paths are still largely unknown, only shown on a few maps and often insufficiently marked. In recent years, therefore, Fontane hiking trails have been defined on the basis of their literary representation; the first six in 1988 on the 90th anniversary of the poet's death. They have been signposted and are developed to such an extent that they can be connected as hiking trails to a supra-regional hiking trail network, with the Potsdam-Mittelmark district leading the way . In the meantime, several Fontane hiking clubs have been founded whose hiking enthusiasts are rediscovering these trails.

The routes compiled so far do not represent authentic tours as Fontane would have undertaken in this form. In addition, it is not always known which paths Fontane walked at the time. Furthermore, some roads are no longer available after the landscape has been divided by railroad lines and highways. In this respect, the Fontaneweges represent, in part, arbitrary links between the places described in the hikes and cultural assets that have been created according to today's landscape and offer routes that are as scenic as possible away from the roads. Fontane avoided Berlin on his tours . The fact that sections of today's Fontanewege still lead through parts of Berlin is due to the fact that these today's Berlin districts belonged to the province of Brandenburg in Fontane's time and were not incorporated into the capital until 1920 with the formation of Greater Berlin .

Section F5

Abbreviations F and TF

Partly parallel to the Fontanewegen with the abbreviation F, TF bike routes, especially TF4 and TF5, run in the Teltow-Fläming district. TF does not stand for T heodor F ontane, but for T eltow- F läming. On the other hand, the TF 1, TF 2 and TF 3 in the Märkisch-Oderland district (listed below in the chapter Theodor-Fontane long-distance hiking trail ) has the TF for T heodor F ontane.

Fontaneweg F1

The approximately ten-kilometer route begins at the Berlin-Köpenick S-Bahn station and leads through the old town to Müggelsee . In the chapter The Müggelsee Fontane writes:

View over the Long Lake to Wendenschloß

“The heart is happy to sit at the Müggel and the soft music of the forest and water around you to dream away the hours. The sun is sinking and the picture, which at first sight showed a certain monotony, gains more and more power over us and spins us into the old Müggelzauber. "

- Theodor Fontane: Walks through the Mark Brandenburg. Spreeland

After the landscape protection area Neue Wiesen , the Wendenschloß and the ferry ride over the Long Lake to Berlin-Grünau , the route ends at the Grünau S-Bahn station .

Fontaneweg F2

The hiking trail is a direct connection to the first path from the Grünau S-Bahn station and is around 22 km long. It leads past the Langen See (Karolinenhof) into the state of Brandenburg . Along the way, the Zeuthener See near Eichwalde , the nature reserve Höllengrund , Zeuthen and Wildau , until the destination, Königs Wusterhausen , with the hunting lodge of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm , is reached. There is a S-Bahn connection again. Königs Wusterhausen visited Fontane in June 1862 on his Whitsun trip to the Teltow and dedicated a chapter to the former Wendisch-Wusterhausen and the castle in the Spreeland volume .

Fontaneweg F3

Marquardt Castle on a drawing by Albert Hertel from 1894

This route leads from Groß Glienicke to Marquardt with Marquardt Castle , which is now a popular film set. In Neu Fahrland you can reach waypoints for further hiking trails. In the Fahrland chapter in the Havelland volume of hikes , Fontane describes the place with the office, church and parish (detailed reproductions from the Fahrlander Chronik ), the Königswall, the Helmenholz and the Kirchberg.

“Poplars and Elsen border the numerous paths; Sludge mills stand by the ditches, ready to begin their work in the rainy season, when all the fields have become islands. On the whole a charming landscape, equally poor in characteristic and beauty points. "

- Theodor Fontane: Walks through the Mark Brandenburg. Havelland (Elsen → Erlen)

Fontaneweg F4

Route F4 connects Mittenwalde over the Notte low, across the Teltow and through the Nuthe - Nieplitz low with Potsdam in a three-quarter circuit .

The path leads from Mittenwalde via Zossen , via the districts of Mellensee and Saalow in the municipality of Am Mellensee and via Christinendorf to Trebbin , where it reaches the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park . After climbing over the heights of the Glauer Berge compression moraine , the path to Blankensee descends . Here, in what he called Thümenschen Winkel , Fontane visited, among other things, the Blankensee mansion , the later refuge of the writer Hermann Sudermann . After the village of Schiaß , the smallest district in the middle town of Ludwigsfelde , the F4 follows the Königsgraben for a while. To the west it leaves the lowland and climbs up to the Saarmunder terminal moraine arch , which forms the eastern boundary of the Zauche to the Nuthe-Nieplitz lowland. Over the heights of the terminal moraine arch , the path through the Fresdorfer Heide, over the Ziebchenberg (81 m) and the Saarmunder Berg (97 m) near Saarmund , where there is a connection to the F5, returns to the lowlands. The hiking trail leaves the nature park at the Berlin outer ring . As far as Potsdam it largely follows the course of the Nuthe and after the nature-protected Babelsberger Nuthewiesen it reaches the center of the state capital. The Fontaneweg F4 ends at the Potsdam Groove confluence with the Havel.

The F5 Fontanewanderweg, which is laid out as a circular route, connects Teltow , Kleinmachnow and Stahnsdorf , among others . The approximately 90 kilometer long path is connected to the Bäketal nature trail and runs on the route described by Fontane from “Klein Machnow auf dem Sande” to the “Gütergotz” ( Güterfelde ) and part of the Parforceheide . The way to Löwenbruch goes via Ruhlsdorf , Großbeeren , Genshagen . In the manor house Löwenbruch Fontane conversations he in the band led Spree country chapter Löwenbruch held. Abstract:

“On the table in front of us there is a serpentine mug with the von Otterstedts coat of arms on its silver lid; [...]. The last red stripe over the fir trees is gone and the soft singing of the kettle in the next room announces the tea hour. Nobody speaks anymore, but it is as if the voices of those who are no longer whispered. "

After Kerzendorf and Thyrow , the path near Großbeuthen reaches the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park . From Kleinbeuthen it continues to Jütchendorf and Gröben , where Fontane looked at the oldest preserved church book (1575) of the Mark Brandenburg several times . After the stations in Fahlhorst and Saarmund - here Fontane had looked in vain for the Nutheburgen from the time the Mark was founded - and Philippsthal closes the hiking circuit.

Fontaneweg F6

Karl Hagemeister : View of Ferch am Schwielowsee , around 1880

The path around the Schwielowsee is also designed as a cycle path. Petzow Castle is located on the lake . Because the Fontaneweg F6 is connected to the national Radfernwegenetz, for example on the same bike path , the Berlin-Copenhagen Cycle Route and the European Bicycle Route R1 , surrounding attractions within easy reach. In the chapter The Schwielow and its surroundings of the volume Havelland , Fontane describes in detail the lake ( extracts ) and the surrounding villages Caputh , Petzow , Alt- and Neu-Geltow , Baumgartenbrück , Werder and Glindow . In the closing words of November 14, 1881 to the volume Spreeland , Fontane recalls his excursions with the Potsdam garrison school teacher Wagener:

"[...] and what is contained in all of these chapter headings of serious and cheerful stories, I took to very important parts of his always fresh and descriptive, because everywhere from the wealth of experience, conversations on the way. With true heartfelt joy, I think back to those summer afternoons when we returned home from the villages and brick kilns on the Schwielowsee, rested on a roller of grass lying in front of a few converted houses in Alt-Geltow and used to take our very belated vesper bread from free hand without that the flow of speech would have stopped for even a moment. "

Fontaneweg in the Dahme-Spreewald district

Marking Fontaneweg.png

Another hiking trail known as the Fontaneweg runs over a distance of around 90 km between Berlin-Schmöckwitz and Mittenwalde and is largely in the Dahme-Spreewald district . This hiking trail is also marked with a red bar on a white background. The hiking trail is sometimes given a name that alludes to Fontane's participation in a boat expedition on the Sphinx (told in “The Wendish Spree”, in Spreeland (1882), fourth volume of the walks through the Mark Brandenburg region ). The hiking trail connects to the European long-distance hiking trail E10 and the 66 lakes hiking trail .

From the north, the hiking trail begins in Berlin-Schmöckwitz and leads via Zeuthen to Königs Wusterhausen , then runs past Krimnicksee and Krüpelsee to Bindow and past Wolziger See to Prieros . From Prieros the route runs via Neubrück , Klein Köris , Groß Köris , Teupitz and Motzen to Mittenwalde. It leads past the Hölzerner See , Klein Köriser See , the Teupitz waters and the Motzener See as well as the nature reserves Dubrow , Radeberge, Mühlenfließ-Sägebach and Töpchiner See.

This hiking trail comprises a section of the Fontaneweg F2 and creates a seamless connection to the Fontaneweg F4. Ultimately, including the Fontane hiking trails F1, F2 and F4, there is an approximately 200 km long and uniformly marked Fontane hiking trail between Berlin-Köpenick and Potsdam, with the additional option of connecting to the Fontaneweg F6, which is a circular hiking trail.

Theodor-Fontane – Wanderweg.png

A long-distance hiking trail in Brandenburg over about 110 km leads from the Niederfinow boat lift to Frankfurt (Oder) . There are numerous sights along the way such as Schloss Freienwalde , Schloss Trebnitz , the episcopal city of Lebus and the Seelower Heights memorial before reaching the Kleiststadt Frankfurt . The approximately ten kilometer long section of the Fontane hiking trail through the forest between Falkenberg (Mark) and Bad Freienwalde was laid out in 1951 as the first nature trail in the GDR , and numerous other hiking trails connect to the trail.

The seven-kilometer circular route leads from Buckow through the Märkische Schweiz nature park . The initially narrow path runs along the Sophien river through swampy and densely wooded headwaters to the root spruce . After the 160 to 180 year old tree, a landmark of Buckow, the path descends into the Drachenkehle (gorge) and then climbs up to the Krugberg, the highest point in the nature park at 129 meters. Passing two boulders , the Devil's Stones , he reaches the Wolfsschlucht and after the Günter spring in the Stobbertal nature reserve crosses the Stöbber brook that gives it its name . From the visitor information center of the Schweizer Haus nature park , the route leads back to Buckow. Fontane described his hike on the Sophienfließ to the Bollersdorfer Plateau as follows:

“We choose […] a [path] […] through those lovely gorges and forest areas through which mountain water, the Sophienfließ, flows. [...] Firs and larch trees frame the hillside on both sides, beeches and birches are strewn in the coniferous wood, the cuckoo calls, the brook babbles, and on the fresh lawn that makes hiking so easy, the fir apples lie or play Shadows and lights of the afternoon sun. "

It is a short cultural-historical circular route in Plaue , which opens up Plaue Castle with its park. The Plauer Castle is one of the five castles that Fontane described in detail in the final volume of the Five Castles Walking Tour . The hiking trail also brings the Plaues water and forest location closer.

It cannot be completely ruled out that the stream was called Marienfließ in Fontane's time. However, it is very likely a transmission error, especially since all other editions (which we have viewed) speak of the Sophienfließ and it is also referred to as this on cards, including older cards.
