Borussia Mönchengladbach became the first in the 1974/75 season of the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship .

Season overview

Borussia Mönchengladbach won the title with top scorer Jupp Heynckes this season and became German champions for the third time . In addition, the Gladbachers won their first international title with the UEFA Cup . At the end of the season, successful coach Hennes Weisweiler moved to FC Barcelona after 11 years with Borussia . Defending champion Bayern Munich was able to defend the European title and again won the European Cup , but they only ended up in 10th place in the Bundesliga - after a 0: 6 on the first match day in Offenbach - and coach Udo Lattek was still in the current season dismiss. Hertha BSC (runner-up), Hamburger SV (4th) and 1. FC Köln (5th) qualified for the UEFA Cup . Third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt won the DFB Cup and therefore took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup. Instead of Eintracht, the vice cup winner MSV Duisburg played in the UEFA Cup.

With the establishment of the double-track Second Bundesliga , the relegation rule changed. Since, in addition to the two first-placed teams in the North and South, the two second-placed teams played a third promoted team, three teams from the 1st Bundesliga were relegated this season, including VfB Stuttgart for the first time.
