history
Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Sant-Maloù (French: Pays de Saint-Malo) and within this region to the Porc'hoed (French: Porhoët) area and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 to 1801 Cruguel belonged to the canton of Ploërmel. Since then it has been assigned to the canton of Josselin.
On March 26, 1351, the Combat des Trente (Battle of the Thirty) took place in Guillac . In this battle for the crown of Brittany, thirty English knights fought for Jean de Montfort against thirty local knights (for Jeanne de Penthièvre ). The locals won.
On July 11, 1944, a meeting of Resistance fighters took place. The German side found out about it. The majority of the resistance were able to flee before the arrival of the Germans thanks to a warning from the population. The Germans only seized René Le Touzic, who was arrested, tortured and shot on August 3, 1944 in Josselin. Two other people in the community, Anne Créquer and Madeleine Rolland, were also arrested, imprisoned and tortured.
