Organization of the Army (Bundeswehr, Army Structure 3)
The division of the Army of the Bundeswehr in Army Structure 3 describes the units of the Army in Army Structure 3 . Army Structure 3 referred to the division between around 1970 and around 1980 when the reclassification into Army Structure 4 began. The most noticeable difference between Army Structure 2 and 3 was the establishment of the last of the 36 planned brigades , the reclassification of some divisions and brigades into Jägerdivisions and Jägerbrigades , the reclassification of the paratrooper brigades into airborne brigades and the initial integration of the territorial army into the army.
Preliminary remarks
Scope of the army
The field army was able to set up the last of the planned 36 brigades in 1975. The territorial army set up in 1974 in each of the six military districts each one homeland security command as the core of home protection force on.
Superior leadership
The three German Corps and subordinate military units should be in the case of defense by batons of NATO turned out rden. In the NATO command structure , operations for LANDJUT , NORTHAG and CENTAG were planned. The the inspector of the army subordinate units at the level of the top army command and the three territorial commands subordinate troops remained (in the case of defense ) under national command - that remained the Chancellor and Federal Ministry of Defense and the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces and the Army Staff downstream . So this area was not integrated into the NATO command structure.
The territorial army in the army structure 3
The territorial army , so everyone in the army structure 2 even the command Territorial Defense subordinate and therefore not part of the army troops were first incorporated to assume the army structure 3 in the army and by three newly planned territorial commands out. In addition to the field army , i.e. the units subordinate to the corps and integrated into the NATO command structures, the territorial army formed a separate area within the army.
Note on the association badges and internal association badges
For internal Badge middle, only about officially granted a carrying approval of the 1980s. They are therefore not shown. The enumerated troop units or the "successors" standing in their tradition could, however, have unofficially already carried badges similar to a coat of arms or have officially received them from the middle of 1980. The association badges shown for large associations were introduced into the troops in Army Structure 2 and are shown accordingly.
