Joseph "Jef" Planckaert (born May 5, 1934 in Poperinge , Belgium ; † May 22, 2007 in Otegem , Belgium) was a professional cyclist . He is considered to be one of the best Belgian cyclists of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Immediately after his victory in the amateurs race from Brussels to Liège in 1954, he became a professional driver. Planckaert won during his eleven-year career from 1954 to 1965 the cycling classics Liège – Bastogne – Liège and Paris – Nice and the semi-classics Omloop Het Volk once and Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne twice. His greatest success was the second place in the overall classification of the Tour de France 1962 , in which he wore the yellow jersey for seven days . He was also able to win a stage in the 1961 Tour de France and finished the tour six times among the top 20 riders. In total, he was able to celebrate over 50 successes in his career. He had his best season in 1962 when he finished second in the Super Prestige Pernod classification , a predecessor of the Cycling World Cup .

The Flemish died on May 22, 2007 at the age of 73 after a long and serious illness.
