List of power plants in Quebec

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following is a list of facilities that produce electricity in the Canadian province of Quebec .

Québec produces around 97% of its electricity from hydropower (2013). In addition to a few smaller power plant operators, there is the state-owned Hydro-Québec , which was founded in 1944 and has had a dominant market position since the early 1960s. The company operates 61 hydropower plants (until 2012 the only nuclear power plant in the province).

Facilities owned by private companies and municipalities

Québec has dozens of privately-owned and community-owned hydropower plants. Rio Tinto Alcan is Québec's largest private electricity producer; the six power plants have an installed capacity of 2042 MW. The 102 private hydropower plants together generate a capacity of 3789.1 MW, which corresponds to about a tenth of the production of Hydro-Québec.
