Luchowizy ( Russian Лухови́цы ) is a city in Russia with 29,850 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is located in the southeastern Moscow Oblast , around 135 km from Moscow and 22 km from the nearest major city, Kolomna .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing around 1595. At that time the village was called Gluchowitschi and belonged to the Ryazan archbishop. In the following centuries, the place was predominantly agricultural . The comparatively favorable location between Moscow and Ryazan favored the export of agricultural products to Moscow.
The place gained greater importance with the relocation of the Moscow – Ryazan railway , which also runs through Luchowizy, in the 1860s.
In the course of the territorial reform in the 1920s and 1930s, some surrounding villages were attached to Luchowizy and in 1931 the Rajon named after the place was formed, the administrative center of which it became. In 1948 the status of an urban-type settlement and on June 20, 1957 the city charter was granted.

Economy and Transport
Today there are several industrial companies in the city, including a mechanical engineering factory, a brick factory and several food and textile companies. In the vicinity of the city, agriculture is mainly practiced, and there are also sand, clay, limestone and peat deposits there.
In terms of traffic, Luchowizy is connected to the M5 trunk road . On the Moscow – Ryazan – Kazan railway line , the city has a regional train station with, among other things, direct connections to the Moscow Kazan train station . There is also a disused branch line between Luchowizy and the city of Sarayisk, about 20 km away .
There is a military airfield in Luchowizy, which is connected with the development of the Alexejew 150 fighter aircraft .
Attractions
In Luchowizy itself, the Church of Our Lady of Kazan, built in 1754, is the most famous building. In 2007 Luchowizy celebrated its 50th anniversary as a city. On this occasion, a monument was erected in the city for the cucumber , the vegetable that farmers in the vicinity traditionally like to grow.
There are also some sights in the vicinity, including the village of Dedinowo on the Oka River 11 km northeast of Luchowizys: There was one of the first shipbuilding yards in Russia there in the 17th century .
