Marshall County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is in Plymouth .

The county is located in northern Indiana, about 50 km from Michigan and has an area of ​​1,165 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: St. Joseph County , Elkhart County , Kosciusko County , Fulton County , Pulaski County, and Starke Counties .

history

Marshall County was formed on February 7, 1835 from parts of Elkhart County and St. Joseph County. It was named after John Marshall , a presiding judge on the United States Supreme Court .

According to the 2000 census , Marshall County had 45,128 people in 16,519 households and 12,191 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.53 percent white, 0.30 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.54 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races.
