The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 29th time in 1901/02 . The most important Scottish football cup competition, which was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 28, 1901 and ended with the final on April 26, 1902 in Celtic Park in Glasgow . Heart of Midlothian started as the defending champion in the competition, which had prevailed 4-3 in the previous year's final against Celtic Glasgow . In this year's Scottish Cup final, Celtic and Hibernian Edinburgh faced each other. For the Bhoys it was the fourth cup final in a row after 1899 , 1900 and 1901 , and the eighth overall. The Hibs were in the final for the third time after 1887 and 1896 . With a 1-0 victory, the capital city club from Edinburgh won the title for the second time in the club's history after 1887. It was the only cup success in the 20th century for the Hibees . The third cup victory could only be achieved 114 years later, in 2016 .
After the Ibrox disaster occurred on April 5, 1902 during the international match between Scotland and England , the final of the FA Cup was postponed from April 12 to 26. In addition, the Celtic Park, the actual home ground of Celtic, was chosen as the new stadium. For fear of another catastrophe, numerous spectators stayed away from the final.
