The Ski Jumping World Cup 1980/81 (official name: FIS World Cup Ski Jumping 1980/81 ) was the most important ski jumping competition series held by the FIS World Ski Association between December 30, 1980 and March 22, 1981 at 19 different locations in Europe, North America and Asia . The original plan was to hold 28 individual competitions. Four competitions had to be canceled without replacement, so that 24 individual competitions were included in the rating. The Austrian Armin Kogler won the overall ranking this season , followed by the Norwegian Roger Ruud and the Canadian Horst Bulau in second and third place . The Austrian defending champion Hubert Neuper took fourth place. Team Austria, which had already won the previous year, won the Nations Cup ahead of Norway and Finland.
Remarks
It was a bit strange that at the same time as the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf (February 27 to March 1) the World Cup was continued on other hills, whereby Armin Kogler won the World Championship silver, but Roger Ruud scored valuable World Cup points with two wins in Chamonix .
The last competition decided the overall World Cup. Before Planica , Ruud led with 201 to 200 points; It was clear: Roger Ruud needed a fourth place in order to be able to score more points, Kogler a second (which earned him five points) - on the normal hill both remained without points (Kogler 13th, Ruud 14th). The jury decided at the competition on the big hill - after several problems with the distance and falls, especially the heavy fall of the Finn Jari Puikkonen (suspected ligament tear and fracture in the right knee), there were breaks and restarts - to carry out only one evaluation run . Ruud was again without points (only 35th). In the event of a tie, Kogler would have won the rating because of the higher number of deleted points.

Ratings
World Cup points were awarded for places 1 to 15 (1st place = 25 points, 2nd place = 20 points, 3rd place = 15 points, from 4th to 15th place, 12 points to 1 point, descending). In the case of athletes who were in the points in more than 10 competitions, the results were deleted, since in this case only the ten best results were counted. There was a special feature in the three competitions in Switzerland (St. Moritz, Gstaad, Engelberg): in the case of athletes who achieved the points in all three competitions in Switzerland, the worst placement was treated as a discarded result.
For the nation ranking, all points were taken into account (no deletion results).
Points that were deducted from a jumper as a cancellation result are indicated in brackets, if applicable.
