history

Vadans, the Gallo-Roman "Valduacum", came into the possession of the Counts of Pfirt in 1160 , who acquired it from Friedrich Barbarossa after they had lost Amance . Since the owners of the castle liked to use them to care for their daughters, Vadans never stayed in a family for long: the Counts of Pfirt were followed by the Counts of Mâcon and Vienne , the lords of Salins , who Vadans in turn passed on to the lords of Vergy. From the Vergy, Vadans came to the House of Poitiers-Valentinois in the 14th century , for which the rule of Vadans was finally raised to a barony.
