The sixth season of the real-time television series 24 first aired in the United States from January to May 2007, in Switzerland between March and June 2008 and in Germany from June to August 2008.

Islamist extremists are streaking the United States with an unprecedented series of terrorist attacks. When their hiding place is tracked down by the anti-terrorist agency CTU, the assassins detonate one of several suitcase atom bombs that cost thousands of lives. It soon emerges that the extremists were being used by a Russian nationalist ex-general to carry out the attacks and that he leaked the bombs to them with the help of the company run by Jack Bauer's father. After Bauer and CTU have seized the remaining atomic bombs, Bauer, CTU and the US government must prevent a war in Central Asia that threatens to break out because a component from the atomic bombs fell into Chinese hands. Meanwhile, a bomb attack on the president is carried out in Washington, the consequences of which he is ultimately incapacitated and replaced by the vice president.

Prequel

The untitled prequel is an approximately 10-minute short film directed by Jon Cassar and Joseph A. Hodges that has been set since the end of the fifth season and to prepare for the sixth season on the Internet and on the DVD box of the fifth season has been published. It was sponsored by Toyota and published without a German dubbed version.

The prequel begins with one of the final scenes of the fifth season. In it, Bauer is kidnapped and about ten minutes later, tortured , brought before Cheng Zhi, the former security chief of the Chinese consulate in LA, on a Chinese container ship . Zhi refuses Bauer's request to be killed on the grounds that Bauer is far too valuable for that.

Seven months later, Bauer is in a Chinese prison. In Zhi he is tortured with electric shocks and cuts in order to divulge information about which of the Chinese Lee and Hong is the US agent in China. Bauer refuses to answer. Back in his detention cell, he is released from prison by two Americans. In the dark they flee with him in a Toyota from their Chinese pursuers until they meet Hong, who is supposed to enable the farmer to flee further. After farmer recognizes Hong, they are surrounded by Zhi and Chinese guards. Zhi now has the answer to the desired question, kills Hong and has Bauer captured again. Zhi had staged the liberation with the two Americans he had paid for the sole purpose of obtaining this information.

action

The action takes place 20 months after the fifth season , starts at 6 a.m. and lasts until 6 a.m. the following day.

History and initial situation

20 months ago Jack Bauer was kidnapped from Los Angeles to China by Chinese agents ( → Season 5 ). In Chinese captivity, he has since been tortured for disclosure of information .

Wayne Palmer, brother of the murdered David Palmer, has been US President for three months . For eleven weeks in the urban terrorist attacks perpetrated on which no one yet known has died and in which more than 900 people. Because militant Islamists are suspected to be the perpetrators , the mood in the population is characterized by caution and aversion to Islamic people, and there are also attacks on Islamic institutions.

The US government considers Hamri Al-Assad, a mass murderer and enemy of the US for years, who came into the US three days before the first attack , to be the mastermind behind the attacks. Four days ago, Abu Fayed, an alleged accomplice of Al-Assad, offered CTU to mention Al-Assad's whereabouts if he would receive US $ 25 million and Jack Bauer. Fayed wants Bauer's death in retaliation for the death of his brother, who once died during an interrogation conducted by Bauer. To accept the exchange, Palmer obtained Bauer's release from Chinese custody two days ago.

6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Shortly after 6 a.m., another suicide bomber blew himself up in a public bus in LA , killing 22 people. For the first time, Homeland Security has the highest terror warning level.

Alexander Siddig , actor of Hamri Al-Assad

At around 6:15 a.m., Bauer, tortured, was handed over from Zhi near LA to CTU, which handed him over to Fayed before 7:00 a.m. at Camp Pendleton . This tortured him with stabbing weapons . Bauer learns from Fayed that it is he and not Al-Assad who was responsible for the terrorist attacks. With the help of CTU, Fayed wants Al-Assad's death because he has renounced terrorism and is trying to stop the attacks. While Fayed informs CTU of Al-Assad's whereabouts, Bauer is able to free himself from Fayed's captivity and flee. Because Bauer is unsuccessful with his request to Palmer to stop the attack on Al-Assad due to a lack of credibility, he gets Al-Assad out of his hiding place seconds before it is destroyed by fire from CTU attack helicopters .

When he arrived in Al-Assad's hiding place, Bauer helped unmask a man who was spying for Fayed among his accomplices. Under torture by Al-Assad, he reveals an address in the center of LA used by Fayed before Al-Assad executes him as a traitor. Arriving at the place with Bauer, Al-Assad recognizes two men as a suicide bomber sent by Fayed and his guardian. After the former has boarded the subway with the aim of blowing himself up with his explosives belt in Union Station , Bauer can grab him and push him out of the end of the train while driving , a split second before the man shouting " Allahu akbar ", is torn by the belt. At the same time, Fayed had suicide attacks carried out in Baltimore , St. Louis and Chicago , killing at least 350 people in total. Since the NSA recorded the phone call between the supervisor, who was being persecuted by Al-Assad, and Fayed about the failed attack, Palmer learns of Fayed's responsibility, whereby he admits Bauer's claim as justified.

At the instigation of their son Scott, the Wallace family, who live in a suburb of LA, take in their neighbor Ahmed Amar for protection from the lynching that other neighbors attempt to carry out on him after Ahmed's father has been arrested. When Ahmed, one of Fayed's accomplices, returned to his house, he was lynched by a neighbor, whom Ahmed shot in self-defense. Caught in the act by Scott, the injured Ahmed takes the Wallace family hostage and forces his father, Ray, to pick up a package intended for Fayed from a man. Because Ray cannot pay this enough, he has to kill him to get hold of the package. Blackmailing Ahmed, Ray manages to get his wife released before he delivers the package to Fayed in Valencia .

To get to Fayed, Bauer, Al-Assad and a CTU special team led by Curtis pursue the suicide bomber's watchdog as far as a district of Santa Clarita . Meanwhile, Wayne enforces Fayed's renewed demand to bring 110 foreign felons from a Palmdale prison to a plane for release so that Fayed will not commit another terrorist attack. After the spies to thwart his arrest suicide committed, the CTU will take place at just before 9 pm in its data with Al-Assad's Help a list of components for a Soviet suitcase nuclear device . The plans were once brought about by nuclear scientist Hasan Numair, who is one of the criminals to be released in Palmdale and who is helping Sayed's accomplice, who works as a US official, to escape captivity and reach Sayed's hiding place in Valencia. There Numair armed the bomb with the component handed over by Ray.

After Ray's wife Jilian informs the police about the hostage situation, Jack and CTU end it, with Ahmed dying. After Wayne has been convinced by the ambassador of Al-Assad's country of origin that Al-Assad is serious about peace efforts, he gives Al-Assad a full amnesty to help the authorities stop the terrorists. Curtis does not agree with this because of the earlier atrocities of Al-Assad and therefore wants to retaliate against him, which is why Jack shoots him. The CTU has discovered Fayed's accomplices in their hiding place at the address Scott overheard, but can no longer prevent Numair from detonating the suitcase atom bomb. Just before 10 a.m. it explodes, causing a mushroom cloud .

Meanwhile, in order to prevent attacks, and using a law created because of the terrorist attacks that restrict civil rights , the FBI wants to seize personnel files in the Islamic-American Alliance in Washington, DC , a lawyer group led by Walid Al-Rezani Sandra Palmer, sister of the US President, also works. She sabotages the investigation by deleting data, so she and Al-Rezani are arrested by the FBI. After Wayne orders her release, Tom Lennox, the law -promoting White House Chief of Staff , prevents her from soliciting Wayne for Al-Rezani. From a conversation between two Arab men in the detention center, he heard the statement that there were a total of "five visitors" through whom the CTU assumed there were four more atomic bombs.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Peter MacNicol , cast member of Tom Lennox

The nuclear explosion kills at least 12,000. Wayne, reacting to the attack, has civilian air traffic shut down and henceforth rules from the Presidential Emergency Operations Center under the White House . Behind the president's back, Lennox is pushing ahead with his plans to amend a law that restricts civil rights to prevent further attacks and enables preventive deportation and internment of citizens of Arab origin. Sharply protested against this, the National Security Advisor Karen Hayes, Buchanan's wife, is extorted by Lennox to her immediate resignation. Meanwhile, the tightened state security precautions also include the surveillance of US state employees of Middle Eastern origin, including the Muslim CTU employee Nadia Yassir, by Homeland Security. Fayed plans to detonate the remaining four suitcase atomic bombs today and lets Darren McCarthy, who sold him the bombs, find a replacement for Numair.

During his interrogation at CTU, Al-Assad reveals the name of Russian ex-general Dmitri Gredenko, with whom Fayed had negotiated the purchase of the bombs the year before. Because Gredenko's contacts include BXJ Technologies, which is run by Jack's father Phillip, Jack Phillip wants to hear from him. But he only meets his brother Graem, who is also active in the company management, whom he suspiciously tortures in his house in Indian Falls in order to divulge information about Phillip. Beneath this, Graem admits that BXJ had ordered the nuclear warheads from Gredenko to recycle their contents as part of the disarmament . BXJ had hired the munitions disposal company McCarthy to oversee the work, but he stole the bombs from BXJ and sold them to Fayed. In McCarthy's office in Simi Valley , Jack and Graem meet Phillip, who assumed that the bombs could no longer have exploded. Graem now turns against Jack and Phillip, whom he has taken away for the purpose of execution, but who can quickly free themselves.

Thinking that Graem has lied to, Jack uses CTU to torture his brother in order to find McCarthy. Beneath this, Graem confesses to the shaken Jack that he - driven by patriotism - ordered the murder of David Palmer, Michelle Dessler and Tony Almeida and the extradition of Jack to China and that he is responsible for the related conspiracy ( Season 5 ). With this confession, however, Graem secretly distracts his brother from the real motives on which he conspired with his father. He murders his son Graem in order to prevent Graem from revealing this information during CTU interrogations and leads CTU to believe that Graem died as a result of the torture.

With the help of his girlfriend Rita Brady, McCarthy kidnaps CTU data analyst Morris O'Brian to have him program the detonators for Fayed. Brady, however, murders her boyfriend in order to have Fayed pay him for himself. Arriving at Fayed's, Fayed Morris tortured him to do the work with beatings, hiding, and a drill before killing Brady. After the discovery of McCarthy's body and the evaluation of his call data, the CTU arrives at the building of Fayed's whereabouts, which it storms and kills Fayed's accomplices; Fayed escapes. Only with Chloe's help does Jack manage to prevent the explosion of a suitcase atom bomb equipped with the newly programmed detonator at the last second.

The FBI uses Al-Rezani as a spy among his fellow prisoners without asking for information about a connection to Fayed, but without gaining knowledge; Al-Rezani is noticed as a spy and is lynched by inmates. Under this impression, Wayne rejects Lennox's law change to protect the US constitution , also advocated by Vice President Noah Daniels. Al-Assad, having arrived at Wayne's seat of government, agreed to televised to ask members of the Islamic communities to report information about Fayed. Lennox, now knowing that Fayed can detonate the other three atomic bombs, approves his deputy Reed Pollock's plan to depose Wayne to enforce the law change.

2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

James Cromwell , cast member of Phillip Bauer

Wayne is now isolated with the cabinet rejection of the law change . Pollock finds out from Lennox that his plan to assassinate the president with a bomb attack for the purpose of deposition and to blame Al-Assad for it. Therefore, and so that Pollock can smuggle the supplier of the explosive device into the government bunker, Pollock locks him up.

From an email fragment secured on Fayed's computer, the CTU assumes that Fayed is working with Gredenko. Gredenko, a radical nationalist , wants to use the remaining three atomic bombs against the US because Russia failed with it during the Cold War , and blames the Arabs for it. Phillip lies to his family to protect BXJ and spies on CTU to find Gredenko. Jack and Graem's widow Marilyn go to an address where Graem once met with Russians. To prevent CTU from finding Gredenko, Phillip blackmailed Marilyn into moving CTU to a different address, threatening to kill her son Josh. There Jack, Marilyn and CTU employee Milo Pressman are ambushed by Phillips. Jack overpowers his hit man and then learns from Marilyn that Phillip has blackmailed her and that he murdered Graem. However, CTU found no trace of Gredenko at the address known to Marilyn.

Phillip releases his grandson in exchange for Jack. While his father is in captivity, Jack learns from Phillip that Gredenko has blackmailed him into siphoning off some of the atomic bombs he had acquired by revealing his involvement in the murder of David Palmer. Phillip didn't find out that Gredenko had sold the bombs to Fayed until after the nuclear explosion and has since tried to find Gredenko to prevent further explosions. Phillip, fearing his arrest, escapes while Jack awaits his announced execution, leaving him a phone number so that Gredenko can be found. Jack reaches the ex-president Charles Logan, responsible for the murder of David Palmer.

Despite torture injuries, Morris returns to his work at CTU and briefly indulges in alcohol to cheer him up.

Pollock detonates the bomb attached to a desk just before 5 p.m., killing Al-Assad and seriously injuring Wayne. With the threat of incriminating Lennox with false accusations, Pollock releases him, who shortly thereafter has Pollock and his accomplices arrested as assassins. The Vice President, who is taking over the official business, then hushed up the Secret Service's investigations into the background of the attack in order to exploit the situation to enforce the change in the law. He announced the immediate suspension of civil rights contained therein in a televised speech on the State of the Union . Because of Wayne's incapacity, Hayes withdraws her resignation.

To rehabilitate himself professionally, Logan helps CTU contact Anatoly Markov, who is the Russian consul general in LA and also Gredenko's contact. Logan tries diplomatically in the Russian consulate to persuade Markov to divulge Gredenko's whereabouts, and also puts him under pressure by announcing his involvement in the delivery of the nerve gas to the Russian separatists ( → Season 5 ). Because Markov does not announce the location, Jack tortures him, having penetrated the consulate. Shortly before Jack's arrest a few moments before 6 p.m. and only after Jack has cut off his finger with a cigar cutter , Markov reveals that Gredenko is having the atomic bombs mounted on remote-controlled drones in the Shadow Valley in the Mojave Desert , which are ready for use in two hours .

6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Powers Boothe , starring Noah Daniels

Daniels threatens the ambassador of Al-Assad's homeland, off whose coast the US military has already taken several aircraft carriers into position, with a military retaliation if it does not play a decisive role in stopping the assassins, and leaves the ambassador through Lennox for evidence Lie the alleged guilt of Al-Assad in the assassination attempt on Wayne.

Charles convinces his ex-wife Martha to call the wife of Russian President Yuri Suvarov to convince Yuri that Markov is being interrogated by CTU. While Martha and Charles wait for the phone call, Martha, who is still bitter about Charles' previous crimes, stabs her ex-husband, who therefore suffers a cardiac arrest a little later . Since Markov refuses to comply with Yuri's request, Yuri grants CTU permission to take Markov by force. Therefore, under the leadership of Mike Doyle, the new head of the secret operations division, CTU is launching an assault on the consulate. Markov warns Gredenko against a suicide attempt. Jack is freed and informs CTU of Gredenko's whereabouts.

Before Fayed and Gredenko flee, they launch a drone equipped with an atomic bomb shortly after 7 p.m. To prevent the CTU from tracking down the drone, Gredenko lets his accomplices access Nadia Yassir's computer via a remote maintenance module. As a result, Yassir is arrested as a suspect and interrogated by Doyle. The CTU seizes Gredenko's accomplices just a short distance from the CTU building, allowing Jack to make an emergency landing for the drone by remote control just before the atomic bomb explodes in San Francisco . However, it will be damaged in the process, causing radioactivity to leak and contaminating CTU agents. With this circumstance Daniels justifies the intended nuclear retaliation against Fayed and Al-Assad's homeland under Hayes' protest.

Jack learns that Audrey died trying to find him in China. Gredenko hires safety advisor Mark Hauser to procure safety plans for a nuclear power plant , the next target. The CTU tracks down Hauser through eavesdropping . Jack and CTU can trap Gredenko and arrest him. For his own protection, Doyle tries to keep the remote maintenance module secret, but is soon discovered, so that Yassir is released and goes back to work.

To prevent the nuclear retaliation against Fayed's homeland, Hayes causes Sandra to bring her brother out of the cerebral edema- induced, artificial coma . Wayne, endangering his life for lack of recovery, revokes the order to attack. However, Daniels immediately lets the cabinet vote on Wayne's unfit for office with a view to the 25th Amendment to the Constitution . Because the vote ends in a tie , Wayne can remain in office. With the aim of still ending the vote to the disadvantage of Wayne, Daniels challenges Hayes' vote on the grounds that her resignation is not yet ineffective. So without much chance of success, it can be in a recorded secretly by Lennox discussion on the proposal of his assistant and lover Lisa Miller one, in his favor before the Attorney General a perjury to do. Daniels refrains from doing this when Lennox blackmailed him by making the conversation public.

The CTU uses Gredenko, ostensibly to hand over the security plans, but secretly to arrest Fayed, for the meeting with Fayed. In order to evade his surveillance, Gredenko, when he arrived at Fayed's, had his radioactively marked arm chopped off. Escaping from Jack together with Fayed, Gredenko discredits Fayed as a terrorist in front of bar visitors, whereby Fayed is lynched and Gredenko can escape alone. Seriously injured, Fayed is arrested by CTU. Gredenko is bleeding to death on the beach.

Wayne, who, contrary to medical advice, allows himself to be stimulated with adrenaline injections in order to maintain his official capacity, suddenly, to everyone's surprise, orders a nuclear retaliatory strike on Fayed's land in order to show leadership against Daniels.

10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Wayne revokes his order to attack Fayed's homeland and declares it a bluff , with which he receives the information from the ambassador that Fayed has been commissioned to carry out the terrorist attacks by General Mohmar Habib. Despite the use of torture, Jack does not succeed in getting Fayed to reveal the location of the other two suitcase atom bombs. In order to find the bombs anyway, the CTU staged his liberation under Fayed's pretense, also by blackmailing Habib, who was tortured for this purpose. After Fayed noticed the deception, he kills some of the CTU agents involved and escapes, secretly pursued by Jack, to his accomplices, who, like Fayed, overwhelms and kills Jack. The CTU secures the suitcase atom bombs.

Immediately after Fayed's killing, Jack is blackmailed by Chinese agent Cheng Zhi into delivering a component of the detonator for one of the suitcase atom bombs for Audrey's release. It contains a prototype algorithm with no modern decryption protection and would allow the Chinese access to all Russian military technology. Jack has Wayne give him permission to use the component to release Audrey and then destroy it at all costs, even if it would kill him. Wayne collapses during a press conference because of a cerebral hemorrhage , is again incapacitated and represented by Daniels, who immediately revokes the CTU's permission to use the ignition component, so that Jack now plans to trade the component for Audrey on his own initiative.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice wants to punish an act publicity in which the CTU weeks ago Fayed already in custody , but had released him at the instigation Buchanan lack of evidence. Hayes, who, as Buchanan's superior Fayed at the time, had not had Fayed checked in more detail, is therefore forced to fire her husband. As a result, Nadia Yassir takes over the acting management of CTU LA

Jack hands the component over to Cheng Zhi at the meeting point and receives Audrey in return, who was pharmacologically tortured in her captivity and is severely traumatized . Because CTU storms the meeting, Jack can no longer detonate the bomb that would have destroyed the component and killed him and Cheng Zhi. While Jack is arrested by CTU, Cheng escapes with the component. In order to quickly find Cheng, Yassir allows the catatonic Audrey to be medically drugged, risking her death. To thwart this treatment, Doyle frees the imprisoned farmer, with whom Audrey is the only one speaking, so that she finally reveals a location used by Cheng. Her father James Heller blames Jack for Audrey's condition and forbids him to have further contact with her.

Because the detonator component got into Chinese hands, the Russian President threatens against. Daniels with military consequences should she leave US territory. Daniels and Lennox quickly discover that Daniels is not only betrayed by his lover Lisa Miller with the other lover Mark Bishop, but also that Bishop works as a Russian spy without their knowledge and has passed on the information regarding the component.

After Chloe makes a nasty joke about Morris, he applies for his transfer, which Yassir does not comply with. Therefore, he breaks off the re-emerging love relationship with Chloe again.

2 to 6 a.m.

Since the component with the Russian military codes is damaged, Cheng has it repaired with the help of Phillip Bauer. In return for Phillip's help, Cheng has his Chinese accomplices kidnap Josh Bauer from the CTU building because Phillip wants to start a new life with his grandson in China. To this end, Cheng's accomplices gain access through the sewer system and kill several security guards and Milo Pressman, who poses as CTU chief. In order to help defend CTU, Jack obtained his release. While some of the Chinese are fleeing with Josh, the hostages free themselves from their violence before Jack and Doyle manage to break off Josh's kidnapping by Cheng, who continues to flee and, because he failed to extradite Josh, he returns the components from Phillip is denied.

Under threat of punishment, Miller is forced by Daniels to leak falsified information to Bishop so that the Russian leadership can avoid military reactions against the police. the United States. During the action, Bishop is forced to pass on the information , also because of Lennox's threat with the death penalty . Because Bishop is being observed by his compatriots, Suvarov notices the fraud. Shortly before 4 a.m. he threatens Daniels to begin military action against US military bases in Central Asia by 6 a.m. Russian armored divisions are already on their way. A little later, Daniels is blackmailed by Phillip into delivering his grandson to him in exchange for the component, which Suvarov is demanding as evidence.

To prevent Jack from thwarting his nephew's extradition, Daniels has him taken into CTU custody. With his warning that one could not trust Phillip and that he would not give out the component, Jack only finds understanding with Hayes. Disregarding regulations, Hayes uses her husband Buchanan to free Jack from CTU custody. However, Jack and Buchanan can no longer prevent the CTU from falling into a Phillips trap during the exchange, whereby Josh comes into Phillips power and Doyle is badly injured in the face. Hayes is arrested for sabotaging Daniels' orders. In order to avert damage to the government, Daniels, who is in self-doubt because of the failed exchange, is convinced of her release.

Phillip brings his grandson to an offshore - offshore platform , from where he with him, Cheng and the component in a pending Chinese submarine will flee gen China. Meanwhile, Russian troops are on the verge of attacking a US military base in Asia. To prevent the attack and to destroy the component, Daniels orders the platform to be destroyed by fire from F / A-18 jet fighters . To save Josh, Buchanan helps Jack get onto the platform in a stolen helicopter and take Cheng and Josh on board. Jack leaves Phillip, who was shot by Josh, with the component on the platform, seconds before it is destroyed by the jet fire.

Chloe breaks down at work from being exhausted and tells Morris, who approaches her again, that she is pregnant.

At gunpoint, Jack expresses his displeasure with Heller that he was not released from Chinese captivity earlier and that he was responsible for Audrey's condition. Saying goodbye to the sleeping Audrey, Jack announces to go into hiding.

publication

The first broadcast of the sixth season was from January 14 to May 21, 2007 on the US broadcaster Fox . When the season began broadcasting in January 2007, FOX launched a comprehensive advertising campaign from autumn 2006, which initially consisted of television commercials. In addition, there was the sponsorship of the program of several radio stations, including Jack FM , Radio One , Clear Channel and CBS Radio , in the days immediately before the season kick-off; the radio program contained several references to the series, but was also ad-free. A countdown clock was faded in in the episodes of the Simpsons previously broadcast on the night of the premiere . The day after the first broadcast of the second double episode, which was part of the season opener, all four episodes were released on DVD. Such a timely DVD release was a novelty at the time, it served to promote both formats. The DVD also contained the beginning of the fifth episode and a voucher for 24 DVDs. The German-language premiere broadcast of the Swiss Free TV transmitter SF 2 from 13 March to 5 June of 2008.

The entire season was released on DVD in the USA and Canada on December 4, 2007, and on October 2, 2008 in Germany.

reception

Reviews

The sixth season received mostly negative criticism and was criticized as "by far the worst". It “lost steam” long before it “crawled at a snail's pace to a disappointing resolution”. The "dynamic of good and bad, of hunch and certainty, of triumph and defeat" is predictable, the race against time seems "exciting", but "routine". From several quarters the scriptwriters were attested to a deficit of new ideas due to numerous parallels in content to the second season - such as the explosion of a nuclear explosive device or the evocation of a war. In addition, it was criticized that the series had "maneuvered itself into an immeasurable spiral of outbidding" since its start, "whose thread is now so twisted that the plot takes on grotesque traits", its half-life has been exceeded. 24 has to "inflate the material really well" in order to "let the people keep watching", which is why in the season "the bloodbath usually wins". The beginning of the season was criticized as "involuntary pastiche", "caricature-like" and "unbearably exaggerated", also because Jack Bauer, long-haired and marked by the torture he endured for his belief in the good of the United States, with his Return "Jesus-like" staged work. The network of relationships and affairs between the other characters was dismissively rated as "confusing". Curtis Manning's manner of death was condemned as "ugly and pointless". TV Highlights Extra found that the sixth season managed the “feat” of being even bigger and more eventful than the fifth.

Awards

At the Emmy Awards 2007 , the season was nominated 6 times, including for stunt coordination, music composition and guest actress ( Jean Smart ). The season was also nominated in the category Best Actor in a Drama Series ( Kiefer Sutherland ) and - based on the 17th episode - Best Sound Mixing for a one-hour comedy or drama series . For this episode there was also the only award of the year, namely in the category Best Sound Editing for a Series .
