The Circuit of The Americas ( CoTA ) is a 5.513 km racetrack near Austin , Texas , United States . The racetrack was completed in 2012. Since then, the US Grand Prix , a Formula 1 race, has taken place on the racetrack. In addition, the organizer of the motorcycle world championship was able to conclude a ten-year contract with the track operator, so that races for the motorcycle world championship have also been held here since 2013 .

Racetrack

The race track as well as the box and paddock were designed by the German track architect Hermann Tilke . The architectural firm Miro Rivera Architects , also from Austin, is responsible for the outdoor facilities such as B. responsible for the grandstands. The route comprises 20 bends, has a height difference of 40 meters and is one of the few routes in Formula 1 that is driven counterclockwise. The start-finish straight ends with an uphill section that ends in a hairpin bend. The route contains passages that are similar to the Maggots-Becketts section in Silverstone or the Motodrom in Hockenheim .

Before the race on November 3, 2019, drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton criticized the exceptionally strong waviness of the track's surface.

Others

The race was canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
