history

Until the church is planted

Dentlein am Forst was first mentioned in a document on May 8, 1397 under the name "Tennlin". The place name is derived from an identical field name, the defining word of which is the Middle High German word "tann" (= fir tree (nwald)) with the attached diminutive suffix "-lîn" and therefore means small fir forest.

A parish of Dentlein has been documented since January 14, 1469. The number of residents increased especially in the middle of the 17th century due to the immigration of evicted Protestants from the Upper Austrian "Ländlein ob der Enns" after the area around the community had been devastated and almost depopulated by the Thirty Years' War . The immigrant population made up about a third of the population around 1660. A schoolhouse had existed since 1698. In 1842, after the new school building - the current town hall - a second teacher (school assistant) was "set up".

Dentlein am Forst was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Feuchtwangen . In 1732 there were 26 properties with 28 teams. The village and community rulership was held by the Sulz monastery administrator . The sole landlord was the Oberamt Feuchtwangen:

There was also 1 church (Protestant) with a cemetery, 1 rectory, 1 schoolhouse, 1 Ansbach main and road customs post, 1 shepherd's house. Towards the end of the Old Kingdom (1806) there were 27 teams in Dentlein. From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Feuchtwangen .

In 1806 Dentlein came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . With the community edict (early 19th century) the tax district Dentlein was formed, to which the places Angerhof , Erlmühle , Eschenlach , Großohrenbronn , Kleinohrenbronn , Ölmühle , Schwaighausen , Wehlmäusel , Weikersdorf and Zinselhof belonged. A little later, the rural community Dentlein was founded, to which the places Angerhof, Erlmühle, Eschenlach, Fetschendorf, Großohrenbronn, Kleinohrenbronn, Obermosbach, Ölmühle, Schwaighausen and Zinselhof belonged. It was subject to the Feuchtwangen Regional Court in terms of administration and jurisdiction . Eschenlach was transferred to Krapfenau before 1840 . The rural community originally had an area of 12.585 km².

Coat of arms of Dentlein am Forst
Blazon : "In gold, a sunk and curled point, quartered with silver and black, each with a rooted, green conifer."

Green and yellow municipal flag

Justification for the coat of arms: The two conifers stand for the place name: "Settlement near the fir forest". The Zollernvierung in the curled point indicates that it once belonged to the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach.
