The Franklin County is a county in the US state of Iowa . At the 2010 census , the county had 10,680 people and a population density of 7.1 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Hampton .

The county is located in north-central Iowa, about 50 miles north of Minnesota , and covers an area of ​​1,510 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Franklin

Franklin County was formed on January 15, 1851 from former parts of Chickasaw County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790), one of the founding fathers of the USA.

12 of the county's sites and buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places .
