Nachabino ( Russian Наха́бино ) is an urban-type settlement in Moscow Oblast with 36,456 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The settlement is located about 35 kilometers west of Moscow on the Grjasewa river , a tributary of the Istra, which flows into the Moskva .

Nachabino belongs to the Krasnogorsk Raion ; its administrative center Krasnogorsk is about ten kilometers to the east. The villages of Kosino , Nefedjewo and Scheljabino are subordinate to the settlement . To the west of Nachabino is the city of Dedovsk .

history

A village of Nachabino was first mentioned in 1482. Since 1534 it belonged to the Trinity Monastery of Sergiev Posad .

In 1938 the place was given urban-type settlement status .

Nachabino played an important role in the history of Russian space travel. The GIRD-09 and GIRD-X rockets were launched here in 1933 by the group for research into reactive drives , which is considered to be the hour of birth of Russian rocket technology.

Culture and sights

Parts of the Boldino estate from the 19th century have been preserved near Nachabino .

The Le Méridien Moscow Country Club Resort ( Starwood Hotels & Resorts ) is located near the village of Schelyabino . It is a resort of the five-star category , with the first and so far (2007) only 18-hole golf course in Russia. It has about 130 guest rooms and suites, and restaurants serving European and regional cuisine.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Nachabino there are companies in the wood processing industry; various units of the Russian armed forces are stationed here.

The settlement is located on the Moscow – Riga railway (route km 34).

The Wolokolamsker Chaussee , the old Moscow arterial road in the direction of Velikije Luki and the Latvian border and on to Riga leads through Nachabino . The M9 motorway in the same direction, which was built on this section between the 1970s and 1980s, bypasses the town extensively in the south.
