Linde was outside the protected area of a section of the Bergische Landwehr that passed 300 m to the west of the Hofschaft and reached from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl. The Bergische Landwehr secured the Bergische territory against incursions from the Märkisch region. The local researcher Gerd Helbeck dates the emergence of this Landwehr to the early 14th century.
