List of members of the Styrian Landtag (18th legislative period)
This list of the members of the Landtag Styria (18th legislative period) lists the members of the Landtag Styria in the 18th. Legislative period (from December 17, 2019).
history
After the early state elections on November 24, 2019 , 18 of the 48 seats went to the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), which won four seats. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to unite twelve mandates, whereby it lost three mandates compared to the state elections in 2015 . The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) lost six seats and got eight seats. The Greens (GRÜNE) doubled the number of mandates to six. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) is still represented by two members in the state parliament. NEOS - The New Austria and Liberal Forum (NEOS) made it into the Styrian state parliament for the first time with two members.
The constituent session of the state parliament with the election and inauguration of the state government Schützenhöfer II took place on December 17, 2019. After the deputies had been sworn in, the Presidency of the State Parliament, the Governor, the State Councilors of the State Government Schützenhöfer II and the members and substitute members of the Federal Council were elected. In the state parliament session on January 21, 2020, the successors for the seven members of the government sworn in as members of the state parliament on December 17, 2019 were sworn in. Helga Ahrer , Udo Hebesberger and Wolfgang Moitzi took over for the three SPÖ government members, and Alexandra Pichler-Jessenko , Sandra Holasek , Matthias Pokorn and Bruno Aschenbrenner for the four ÖVP government members .
The Styrian SPÖ chairman Michael Schickhofer announced his resignation the day after the election that he would not accept a mandate from the state parliament. Jörg Leichtfried took over the party leadership on an interim basis until the coalition negotiations led by Anton Lang were concluded.
Functions
Landtag President
Manuela Khom (ÖVP) was first (so far second) and Gabriele Kolar second state parliament president (so far first). Gerald Deutschmann (FPÖ), who succeeded Gerhard Kurzmann (FPÖ) in this function, was elected third state parliament president .
Club chairmen
In their first club meeting after the state election on November 26, 2019 , the Greens elected top candidate Sandra Krautwaschl as club chairwoman, who succeeded Lambert Schönleitner . Schönleitner remained a deputy in the club, Lara Köck was also appointed as a deputy.
At ÖVP ( Barbara Riener ), SPÖ ( Johannes Schwarz ), FPÖ ( Mario Kunasek ) and KPÖ ( Claudia Klimt-Weithaler ) the club chairmen remained unchanged. Nikolaus Swatek became the club chairman of the newly drafted NEOS .
Federal Councilors
ÖVP and Greens each gained one seat in the Federal Council , while the SPÖ and FPÖ each lost one seat. As a result, the SPÖ no longer had a third of the seats in the regional chamber, lost the blocking minority and can no longer single-handedly block legislative resolutions of the National Council that affect the country's competencies. Of the nine Styrian mandates in the Federal Council, four went to the ÖVP (previously three) and two each to the SPÖ and the FPÖ (previously also three each). The ninth seat went to the Greens, which grew to a total of four mandates after they had already won an additional seat in the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2019 . According to the rules of procedure, at least five mandates were required to form a parliamentary group , but the Federal Council could, with a majority of votes, allow them to join forces, as has already happened in the past. A motion by the Greens to form a parliamentary group was unanimously adopted by the Federal Council on December 19, 2019.
With Andreas Lackner , the first Green from Styria was sent to the Federal Council. The SPÖ sends Horst Schachner and Elisabeth Grossmann ; Hubert Koller and Martin Weber left the Federal Council. The FPÖ sent Markus Leinfellner and Andrea-Michaela Schartel ; Gottfried Sperl , Gerd Krusche and Peter Samt were eliminated. The ÖVP sent Christian Buchmann , Isabella Kaltenegger , Karlheinz Kornhäusl and Ernest Schwindsackl ; Bruno Aschenbrenner left the Federal Council.
