Summer Games in Perchtoldsdorf
The Perchtoldsdorf Summer Games are an annual theater festival in Perchtoldsdorf in Lower Austria .
history
The event has been held annually in July since 1976. The festival has been a member of the Lower Austria Theater Festival since 1994 . One piece is performed per season; in 2016 the performances were attended by around 9,500 people.
From 1981 to 1996 Jürgen Wilke was the director of the Summer Games, from 1999 to 2001 this was Gerhard Tötschinger and then until 2007 Wolfgang Löhnert . After a break in 2008 and 2009 due to renovation work, Barbara Bissmeier (also Bißmeier) was artistic director from 2010 to 2013. Michael Sturminger has directed the festival since 2014 . The directors Jürgen Wilke, Gerhard Tötschinger and Michael Sturminger also directed.
The performances take place in the former courtyard of Perchtoldsdorf Castle. In 2008 and 2009 there were no performances due to renovations and the construction of an event hall for 400 people under the courtyard. Continuous gaming has been possible since 2010 thanks to this new, weatherproof replacement venue. Perchtoldsdorfer Betriebs-GmbH has been organizing the Perchtoldsdorf Summer Games since 2009 . The event receives financial support from the municipality of Perchtoldsdorf and the state of Lower Austria .
In 2020, the summer games were postponed from July to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
