The first generation is designed as a small sport utility vehicle with a length of 3.93 meters . The second-generation Toyota Ist and Scion xD models, which have been available since 2007, are almost identical. Technically, the five-door hatchback share a floor pan with the Toyota Yaris / Toyota Ractis . The Urban Cruiser has been positioned below the RAV4 since its market launch on April 25, 2009 in Europe . The main competitors in this segment are the Daihatsu Terios and the Suzuki SX4 . Production was stopped in 2014.
development
In 2006, a study of the same name by the European Toyota design center was presented at the Geneva Motor Show . What is striking about it are the matt, light green paintwork, strongly curved wheel arches, two glass roof elements and the rear door handles located in the wide C-pillar. Elevated rear lights that match the rear window, double exhaust pipes and an underrun protection on the front and rear are further features. In the interior there is an attached, green center console and an unevenly shaped steering wheel. Two years later, Toyota also presented a very near-series concept vehicle in Geneva that hardly differed from the series model presented at the 2008 Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris.

Visually, the five-seater urban cruiser adopts the exhibited wheel arches, the wide C-pillar and the shape of the headlights from the first study. The rear lights are now further down and the side view is traversed by a light edge above the door handles. Technically, there is a front-wheel drive as standard, an all-wheel drive system from the RAV4 is offered at an additional cost. This is designed to be front-facing and only drives the rear wheels with up to 50% of the available engine power when required. In the interior there is an unusually designed instrument cluster and a round main instrument with electrochromatic pointers for engine speed and speed. The silver-colored center console stands out from the dashboard in terms of color and form and appears to float freely. The variability differs depending on the type of drive. The front-wheel drive has a sliding and folding rear seat bench and a trunk volume of 305 to 749 liters. The rear seat of the all-wheel drive version can be folded in two stages, but not moved, and the maximum volume here is 656 liters.
Engines
The revised 1.4 D-4D with particle filter from the Yaris is used as the diesel engine. This produces 66 kW (90 hp) and has a maximum torque of 205 Nm at 1800 to 2800 min -1 . The average consumption per 100 kilometers is 4.9 liters and the CO 2 emissions are 130 g / km. The diesel is combined with the all-wheel drive and receives a six-speed manual transmission. The newly developed petrol engine has a displacement of 1.33 liters, front-wheel drive and variable valve control (Dual VVT-i). It delivers 74 kW (101 hp) and has a maximum torque of 132 Nm at 3800 min -1 . The comparatively low consumption of 5.5 liters per 100 km and the CO 2 emissions of 129 g / km are achieved thanks to the six-speed gearbox and the standard start-stop system .

Toyota and Suzuki agreed on a partnership back in 2017 . The plan is that Toyota-based Suzuki models will be offered in Europe ( Suzuki Across ). In return, Suzuki develops vehicles for India and Africa, which are then also marketed as Toyota. The second generation Urban Cruiser is the second model to be mentioned here after the Toyota Glanza . It was introduced on August 22, 2020 and is based on the Suzuki Vitara Brezza . A 1.5-liter gasoline engine takes over the drive.
