The Czech national soccer team (Czech: Česká fotbalová reprezentace ) is the formal successor to the Czechoslovak national soccer team, which existed after the split of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993 until the unsuccessful completion of the qualifying round for the 1994 World Cup at the end of 1993.
The Czech team was reorganized in 1994 as the selection team of the Bohemian-Moravian Football Association . At the European Football Championship in England in 1996, the German team only lost in the extension of the final . At the European Championships in 2000 , 2008 and 2016 , the team was eliminated in the preliminary round, while it made it to the semi-finals at the 2004 European Championships and reached the quarter-finals in 2012 . After two relegation games against Norway , the Czech Republic qualified for the 2006 World Cup for the first time to take part in a World Cup . In the tournament, the team was eliminated after the preliminary round.
As for Slovakia , FIFA also takes into account the results of the Czechoslovak team for the Czech Republic , such as winning the European Football Championship in 1976 and reaching the finals of the 1934 and 1962 World Cups .
Trainer
The post of national coach was held by Ivan Hašek until October 2009 , who was also chairman of the Czech football association ČMFS . The former national coach Karel Brückner and Michal Bílek, who had coached the Czech record champions Sparta Prague until 2008 and then coached the Slovak first division club MFK Ružomberok , acted as coaching advisors . Hašek had taken over the post from František Straka who had looked after the team from mid-May 2009 to the end of June 2009 for a friendly against Malta (1-0 result). After failing to qualify for the World Cup, Hašek resigned. Michal Bílek succeeded him in October 2009.
