Valmunster (German Walmünster ) is a French commune with 94 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). The name of the place goes back to the German words "wallen" ( pilgrimage, pilgrimage ) and "Münster" ( church ).

Valmunster is located in the originally German-speaking part of Lorraine between Boulay-Moselle and Bouzonville , a few kilometers from the border with Saarland .

Attractions
The church "Saint-Jean-Baptiste" ( John the Baptist ) was first mentioned in a document in the 10th century and is therefore over 1000 years old. The core of today's building dates back to the 12th century and was converted into a cross-vaulted hall church in 1537. Next to the church is a simple castle of the 17th century.
