Bachmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bachmann is a family name from the German-speaking area. The Low German variants are Beckman (n), Beekman (n).

origin

The widespread German-speaking family name is an original home name and applied to someone who “lives by the stream”. Examples of such dwellings are about "Hofstatt am Bach, called Bachmanns Hofstatt" in the area of Hinwil or Dürnten (1387) and "Hof zum Bach" on the Richterswilerberg (1555).

coat of arms

There is evidence of a Bachmann family in Bohemia with a coat of arms from the 15th century, two linden leaves are shown in their coat of arms.

The Bachmann family coats of arms in Switzerland vary. The Bachmann coat of arms in the Zurich region shows a silver river from top left to bottom right and two golden crescent moons on top right and bottom left on a blue background. The family coat of arms of the Bachmann vom Rain (Lu) shows a silver river that flows from top to bottom in the middle of the coat of arms shield. Left and right of the river is a 5-pointed gold star.
