Baud ( Breton : Baod ) is a French municipality with 6261 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . Baud belongs to the canton of Pontivy .
geography
Baud is located in the center of Brittany and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy . The municipality is bordered by the Blavet river to the west and the Ével river to the south and east .
Neighboring communities are Saint-Barthélemy in the north, Guénin and La Chapelle-Neuve in the east, Camors and Pluvigner in the south, and Languidic and Quistinic in the west.
The community is a traffic junction. The RN 24, which connects Lorient with Rennes , runs through the municipality from west to east . In north-south direction, the D 768 runs through the village, the connection from Auray to Pontivy .

history
Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Baod (French: Pays de Baud) area and shares its history. In 1867, what is now the Saint-Barthelémy parish split off from Baud.
In the valley, south of Baud, ran a stretch of the Chemins de fer du Morbihan . A little west of the village, it met the Auray – Pontivy railway line at Baud station .
