The GAC Trumpchi GS 4 is a compact SUV from the GAC Trumpchi sub-brand of the Chinese Guangzhou Automobile Group positioned below the GAC Trumpchi GS 5 .

The GS 4 was shown to the public for the first time as a near-series vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2015 . The manufacturer showed the series version at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2015. Sales of the SUV with internal combustion engines began shortly afterwards in China. The GAC Trumpchi GA 3 provided the technical basis .

Electric version

The manufacturer presented a battery-electric version of the GS 4 at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2015. The concept vehicle is powered by a 103 kW (140 PS) electric motor and is expected to reach a top speed of 120 km / h. The range should be 240 km. Although electric cars do not have an exhaust system , exhaust tips can be seen at the rear of the electric vehicle. These are only used for optics. The electric version of the SUV has been sold by Toyota in China since November 2018 . The Toyota ix4 made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2018 and takes over the 132 kW (179 PS) electric drive from the GAC Trumpchi GE 3 . Toyota specifies the maximum speed with 156 km / h, the electric range with 270 km. The exhaust tips of the concept vehicle are no longer present on the ix4.

Plug-in hybrid version

In June 2017, the GS 4 with a plug-in hybrid drive was launched on the Chinese market . It combines a 71 kW (97 PS) 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a 130 kW (177 PS) electric motor . Since December 2017, the Mitsubishi Eupheme PHEV, an identical model to the GS 4 PHEV, has also been sold in China.

The second generation of the GS 4 has been on sale in China since November 2019. At the market launch, the vehicle was powered by a supercharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 124 kW (169 hp). A version with a plug-in hybrid drive has also been available since April 2020 . Also in November 2019, the manufacturer presented the GAC Trumpchi GS 4 Coupé with a flat roof.
