Rusa ( Russian Ру́за ) is a small town in Moscow Oblast in Russia .

Geography and economics

The town with 13,495 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) is located 110 km west of Moscow on the Rusa river of the same name , a tributary of the Moskva . The nearest railway station is in Tutschkowo, 22 km away.

The place houses several food companies (large butcher, dairy, spirits factory), as well as a textile and a furniture factory. The LG Electronics plant is located 20 km south of the city in the Dorochowo settlement (as of 2007). 

The small Watulino airfield is located southwest of the city .

history

Rusa, whose existence is guaranteed for the 14th century, originally belonged to the principality of Zvenigorod . At the beginning of the 16th century, the city became part of the Principality of Moscow . Rusa was at times a fortress town - remnants of the ramparts have been preserved to this day. In 1618 the place was besieged by the Polish-Lithuanian army. During the Battle of Moscow in World War II, Rusa was temporarily occupied by the German Wehrmacht .

Attractions

There are several churches from the 18th and 19th centuries and a local museum in the city. Because of its picturesque surroundings, the city is a popular resort.
