The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 101st time in 1985/86 . The most important Scottish football cup competition, which was directed by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 7, 1985 and ended with the final on May 10, 1986 in Hampden Park in Glasgow. Celtic Glasgow started as defending champions in the competition, which prevailed against Dundee United in the final last year and won the Scottish Cup for the 27th time. In the final of this year's event, Aberdeen FC and Heart of Midlothian faced each other. The Dons from Aberdeen won the final with a 3: 0 victory by a brace from John Hewitt , and a goal by Billy Stark . With Walter Kidd the third player in history of the competition received a dismissal . Aberdeen FC won the Cup in Scotland in their twelfth final, for the sixth time after 1947 , 1970 , 1982 , 1983 and 1984 . Heart of Midlothian lost in their tenth finals after their first in 1891 for the fifth time, which equalized the finals. By winning the Cup, Aberdeen took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year , and was eliminated there against FC Sion from Switzerland.
