The Scottish League Cup was played for the 74th time in 2019/20 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which will be played among the participants of the Premiership , Championship , League One and League Two as well as the two champions of the Highland and Lowland Football League , began on July 12, 2019 and ended with the final on December 8 2019 in Hampden Park of Glasgow. The competition was officially held as the Betfred Scottish League Cup . The league cup began with 8 groups of five teams each. The eight group winners and the four second best teams in each group reached the second round. The teams taking part in the European Cup only started in the 2nd round. If no winner was found in a duel after 90 minutes, the game was decided on penalties . The winner received two points, the loser one.

As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition that had won against FC Aberdeen in the previous year's final . In this year's final of the Scottish League Cup, defending champions Celtic Glasgow and the Glasgow Rangers faced each other at the Old Firm . Celtic reached the final for the 34th time since 1957 , the Rangers for the 35th time since 1947 . It was the 14th Old Firm final in the League Cup since the legendary 1958 final . Celtic won the final 1-0 with a goal from Christopher Jullien in the 60th minute of the game. As a result, Celtic has now won the last four consecutive editions of this competition. It was the 19th league cup title for Celtic since their first win in 1957.
