Spechbach (Alsatian Spachbi ) is a French commune with 1,334 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the canton Altkirch and community association Sundgau and is in the countryside Sundgau .
history
The municipality in the historical and cultural region of Alsace was re-established on January 1, 2016 and arose from the merger of the municipalities of Spechbach-le-Haut and Spechbach-le-Bas . In the 13th century the two communities were already united. The municipal administration is located in the town hall of Spechbach-le-Haut.
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality is a combination of the coats of arms of the two former municipalities. On a golden background, the blue-red hammer stands at the top left for Spechbach-le-Haut, the triple pass of golden signs on a blue background and golden frame at the bottom right for Spechbach-le-Bas. Between the two symbols of the former municipalities runs from top right to bottom left a black-edged, tortuous silver ribbon that refers to the flowing water “bach” in the place name.
