Taïx (until 1801 still with the spelling Taix ; Occitan : Tais ) is a French commune with 468 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Albi and the Carmausin-Ségala municipal association .
geography
The municipality is located between the towns of Albi and Carmaux on the western foothills of the Massif Central . Taïx includes the districts of La Borie Thomas, La Mestrié, Lempéry, Lespinasse and Riols . Taïx is surrounded by the neighboring communities Labastide-Gabausse in the north, Blaye-les-Mines in the northeast, Le Garric in the east, Cagnac-les-Mines in the south and Mailhoc in the west. The source of the river Vère is in the municipality of Taïx . The municipality is characterized by agriculture, although it is located in the middle of the coal field of Carmaux ( Bassin houiller de Carmaux ). Immediately to the north, east and south of Taïx there are spoil heaps, open-cast mining potholes, some of which are filled with water, and old mining settlements. Coal was mined here from the 13th century to the end of the 20th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are six farms in the community (growing grain and vegetables, raising goats and sheep).
Four kilometers south-east of Taïx there is a connection to the motorway-like route nationale 88 from Rodez to Albi . The Carmaux train station, six kilometers away, is on the railway line from Castelnaudary to Rodez ( Ligne de Castelnaudary à Rodez ).
