Tanus ( Occitan : Tanús ) is a French commune with 533 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitania region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). Tanus belongs to the Arrondissement of Albi and the Canton of Carmaux-1 Le Ségala (until 2015: Canton Pampelonne ).

Tanus is located about 23 kilometers northeast of Albi on the Viaur , which borders the municipality in the north. Tanus is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Tauriac-de-Naucelle in the north, Saint-Just-sur-Viaur in the east, Tréban in the southeast, Montauriol in the south, Moularès in the south and southwest and Pampelonne in the west.

The national route 88 runs through the municipality .
