Brens is a French commune with 2305 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). Brens belongs to the Arrondissement of Albi and the Canton of Gaillac .
geography
Brens is located about 48 kilometers northeast of Toulouse on the Tarn River , into which the small Saudronne River flows here. Brens is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Gaillac in the north and west, Rivières in the northeast, Lagrave in the east, Cadalen in the southeast, Técou in the south and southeast and Montans in the southwest.
The A68 autoroute runs through the municipality .
history
The village was founded as a bastide in 1306 by Philip the Fair .
In 1939 the French state set up a reception camp here for Spanish refugees from the civil war during the Franco dictatorship, which was used by the Germans as an internment camp, initially for Jews from November 1940 to March 1941, and for women from 1942 .
