Blaye-les-Mines is a French commune with 2987 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Albi and the canton of Carmaux-2 Vallée du Cérou (previously Carmaux-Sud ).

geography

The municipality is located four kilometers southwest of Carmaux and 11 kilometers northwest of Albi . Blaye-les-Mines is in the north of the Tarn department.

history

The region around Carmaux owes its present form to the coal that lies beneath it. A document dating from around 1295 suggests that mining began in the 13th century. The document proves that a toll was levied on the Albi bridge for coal transport.
