Réalmont ( Occitan : Rièlmont ) is a French commune with 3,418 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region . Réalmont belongs to the arrondissement of Albi and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Le Haut Dadou .

geography

Réalmont is about twenty kilometers south of Albi in the valley of the river Dadou . Réalmont is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lombers in the north and north-west, Ronel in the north and north-east, Saint-Lieux-Lafenasse in the east, Vénès in the south and Saint-Genest-de-Contest in the south-west and west.

The former national routes 118 and 631 run through the municipality .

history

In 1272, Réalmont became a royal bastide of Philip III. founded, from which the name Réalmont ( royal mountain ) is derived.
