The municipality is located in the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, founded in 2011 . Étalle is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Maubert-Fontaine in the northwest, Sévigny-la-Forêt in the northeast, Chilly in the east, Blombay in the south and the municipality of Marby in the canton of Signy-l'Abbaye in the southwest.

The village was at the beginning of the 13th century by the Cathedral Chapter of the Cathedral of Reims founded.
