Previous tournament and additional tournament

Franz Beckenbauer Cup

Following the example of the Joan Gamper Trophy , which FC Barcelona held in August as a tournament until 1996 and has been played as a single game since 1997, to which FC Bayern Munich was invited in 2006, the Franz-Beckenbauer started in Munich in 2007 -Cup . At that time, the cup was planned as the annual season opening game, in which the team with the new signings should be presented to the fans. The trophy played out, which visually reminded one of the Champions League trophy, was the largest ever played in Germany with a height of 1.15 meters, a circumference of 1.25 meters and a volume of more than 25 liters.

On August 15, 2007, FC Barcelona won the cup by beating Bayern Munich 1-0. The goal scorer was Lionel Messi (85th minute). The game in front of 69,000 spectators was the farewell game for Bayern players Mehmet Scholl and Roy Makaay . The then Vice President of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, described the game as "the most important game that took place internationally this summer".

On August 5, 2008, Inter Milan , Italian champions that season, won the cup by beating Bayern Munich 1-0. Mancini scored the goal (52nd minute). 64,000 spectators came to the home premiere of Jürgen Klinsmann as Bayern coach in the stadium, ZDF broadcast the game live.

After the Audi Cup was held for the first time in 2009 instead of the Franz Beckenbauer Cup, it was held again in 2010. The FC Bayern game against Real Madrid also served as a belated official farewell game for Franz Beckenbauer , who was president of FC Bayern Munich until 2009. Real Madrid won the cup with a 4-2 win on penalties over Bayern Munich after no goals were scored in front of 69,000 spectators during regular time. The game was broadcast live by ZDF (almost 5 million viewers) and laSexta .
