Bars ( Occitan : BARC ) is a commune with 243 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the north of the department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is part of the Haut-Périgord Noir (until 2015: Canton Thenon ) in the arrondissement of Sarlat-la-Canéda .

Bars is located 28 kilometers east-southeast of Périgueux . The Saint-Geyrac rises in the municipality . Bars are surrounded by the neighboring communities Thenon in the north, Auriac-du-Périgord in the east and northeast, Fanlac in the south and southeast, Plazac in the south, Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac in the southwest and Fossemagne in the west and northwest.
