history

Magnificent bathing buildings were built in Bertriacum under the Roman emperors Valentinian II and Gratian . The oldest documentary mention dates from 1097; it is a deed of ownership by Archbishop Egilbert of Trier . In 1476 the place became an electoral state bath. Clemens Wenzeslaus of Saxony , the last elector of Trier, had the electoral palace built here from 1785 to 1787 and used it as a summer and hunting residence. From 1794 Bad Bertrich was under French rule. In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna and became the Prussian state spa.

At the time of National Socialism , the spa facilities in Bad Bertrich were redesigned according to the planning and construction supervision of the architect Otto Hodler .

Bad Bertrich has been part of the then newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946. On January 1, 1975, the previously independent community of Kennfus was incorporated into Bad Bertrich.
