Carona is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 300 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Carona

Carona is located in the upper Brembana Valley, 53 km north of the provincial capital Bergamo and 80 km northeast of the metropolis of Milan. It belongs to the Comunità Montana Valle Brembana as well as the Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche . The districts are Porta, Fiumenero and Pagliari.

The neighboring municipalities are Branzi , Caiolo (SO), Foppolo , Gandellino , Piateda (SO), Valbondione , Valgoglio and Valleve .

Attractions

  • The Church of San Gottardo (patron saint against landslides and avalanches). Despite the ongoing decline in population, the church and around half of all houses in the town were recently renovated.
  • The parish church of San Giovanni Battista was built in the 15th century. Inside there are three altars with stucco and fresco of great value created by local artists.
  • The Church of San Giovanni Decollato , consecrated in 1450.
