history

The Estadi de la Nova Creu Alta in Sabadell, an industrial city twenty kilometers northwest of Barcelona with a population of just over 200,000 people, was built between 1966 and 1967 and opened on August 20, 1967. For the first game in the new stadium, the future user club CE Sabadell and the Spanish top club FC Barcelona met for a friendly game, which the hosts won 1-0. The first goalscorer in the newly built stadium was Josep Maria Vall from CE Sabadell. Since that day, the CE Sabadell association has been using the Estadi de la Nova Creu Alta as a venue for home football matches. The club played fourteen seasons in its history in the Primera División , the top division in Spanish football, the best league placement was a fifth place in the 1950s. At that time, however, the club still used another stadium. The club was last in the first division in 1987/88 . Since then you have played at most in the Segunda División . CE Sabadell is currently playing in this league after being promoted from Segunda División B last season (2010/11) .

The stadium's only major event to date was when some football games from the 1992 Summer Olympics , which the Catalan metropolis of Barcelona had secured, were held in Sabadell. The Olympic football tournament only took place in the preliminary round games in Nova Creu Alta, the knockout games were played in the Camp Nou in Barcelona, in the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia and in La Romareda in Saragossa . However, there were very few spectators for the games in Sabadell, the record crowd at the Olympic football tournament at the games in Sabadell was achieved with 6,000 spectators for the game between Mexico and Ghana (1: 1). Outside of Sabadell, the stadiums at the tournament were only moderately full, with the exception of the final game in Camp Nou, which was followed by 95,000 spectators.
