Immediately south of the parish village flows the Franconian Rezat , into which the Brandbächlein on the right and the Eichenbach flow on the left. The Feuchtlachwald lies in the southwest and the Klingenberg rises to the north ( 448  m above sea level ). The place has grown together with Pfaffengreuth and Ansbach.

The national road 2223 leads to Ansbach (1.2 km northwest) or after Alberndorf (km east 3.5). The ANs 3 leads to a junction of the B 13 (2 km southwest). Communal roads lead to Kaltengreuth (0.6 km east) and Untereichenbach (1 km north).

history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1165 as "Iwe". The place name is derived from an identical field name, which is based on the Middle High German word "îwe", which is used to designate the yew tree . Eyb is the ancestral seat of the Franconian noble family von Eyb . The original St. Lambertus Chapel in Eyb is said to have been built as early as 1043.

In the early 14th century, Heilsbronn Monastery acquired two estates from the Lords of Ellrichshausen and von Brand .

In 1460, Duke Louis IX attacked. of Bavaria and its allies the Ansbach Margrave Albrecht Achilles . They looted and destroyed Eyb and the neighboring villages of Alberndorf , Grüb , Hirschbronn , Katterbach , Obereichenbach , Pfaffengreuth and Untereichenbach by fire . The Eyb'sche Castle and the chapel also burned down.

In 1480 a new church was built in the late Gothic style. In 1482 St. Lambertus became an independent parish. In 1528 the Reformation entered Eyb.

In the 16-point report of the Ansbach District Office from 1684, 40 teams were recorded for Eyb. Five properties were subordinate to the Ansbach court box office , 21 properties to the Ansbach monastery office , one property to the Heilsbronn monastery administration office , three properties to the mayor and council of Ansbach , five properties to the Lords of Eyb and five properties to the Lords of Crailsheim zu Rügland . The high court and the village and community authority exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbachische Hofkastenamt Ansbach.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 48 properties in Eyb with the Aumühle. The high court and village and community authority continued to be exercised by the court box office of Ansbach. Were landlords

  • the Principality of Ansbach (38 properties; Hofkastenamt Ansbach: 2 courtyards, 2 Söldengüter , 1 Gütlein, 1 Söldengütlein, 1 mill, 1 Mühlgut, 1 Schmied-Sölde, 1 empty house ; Abbey Office Ansbach: 3 courtyards, 1 Beckengut with baking rights, 3 Gütlein, 6 Söldengüter, 5 Söldengütlein, 1 empty house, 1 parish, 1 Tafernwirtschaft , 1 Tropfhaus ; Ansbach Council: 2 Söldengüter, 1 Wirts-Sölde; Parish Eyb : 2 Gütlein, 1 Wirts-Sölde; Heilsbronn monastery administration: 1 yard),
  • the manor Frohnhof of the Lords of Eyb (5 Sölden estates),
  • the manor Rügland of the Lords of Crailsheim (4 Söldengüter, 1 Söldengütlein).

In addition to the property, there was also the church and communal buildings (school, shepherd's house). There were 49 subject families, 39 of which were Ansbachian. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

In 1806 Eyb came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the Eyb tax district was formed in 1808 , to which Alberndorf , Aumühle , Büchenmühle , Hirschbronn , Kaltengreuth , Neukirchen , Pfaffengreuth , Schockenmühle , Steinbach , Untereichenbach with the Untereichenbacher Mühle and Weidenmühle belonged. The rural community of Eyb was founded in 1811 and was congruent with the tax district. It was subordinate to the Ansbach Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Ansbach Rent Office ( renamed Ansbach Tax Office in 1920 ).

With the second community edict (1818) Pfaffengreuth was re-ceded to Hennenbach . On September 30, 1827 Alberndorf broke up with Büchenmühle, Hirschbronn, Neukirchen and Steinbach von Eyb and formed their own rural community. On August 25, 1830, Pfaffengreuth was reassigned to Eyb. In voluntary jurisdiction, five properties in Eyb and two properties in Kaltengreuth were subordinate to the Frohnhof Patrimonial Court from 1822 to 1836 .

From 1862 on, Eyb was administered by the Ansbach District Office (renamed the Ansbach District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Ansbach until 1870, 1870-1879 city and district court Ansbach , since 1880 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 7,911 km².

On October 1, 1970, before the regional reform in Bavaria , Eyb and the associated districts were incorporated into Ansbach. A small memorial reminds us that Eyb was a community with a long history.

coat of arms

The Eyber coat of arms has shown the peacock's trunk for a long time. This is allegedly due to the fact that Georg von Eyb was dubbed a "peacock". From around 1400 the coat of arms shows the scallop shell in the shield , while the peacock's trunk moved into the upper coat of arms. According to legend, Ludwig II of Eyb was awarded three red seashells on a silver shield by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1352 after a pilgrimage (1341) to Palestine . The Empress Margarethe I (Holland) , whose court master he was, awarded the noble gentleman "for loyal service" with a golden collar on the peacock neck of the coat of arms.

religion

The place has been Protestant since the Reformation. The residents of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination are parish to St. Lambertus (Eyb) , the residents of the Roman Catholic denomination to St. Ludwig (Ansbach) .
